Life Extension - Extend-Release Magnesium - 60 Vegetarian Capsules
Magnesium Is an Important, but Sometimes Ignored Nutrient
When most people think of nutritional supplements, they usually think of vitamins. Of course, vitamins are extremely important for health, but the body also needs minerals such as magnesium, too. Because of the need for magnesium, it is actually called a macro-mineral. Many of the body’s functions depend on magnesium and a deficiency can lead to problems. There are foods that supply magnesium, but whether vegetables that have been grown in nutrient-depleted soil will provide what is needed is questionable. For those who want to be sure that their body is getting all the magnesium it needs, Extend-Release Magnesium from Life Extension may be the perfect answer.
- Benefits the heart

Magnesium Deficiency Might Cause Health Problems
Because the body is a very finely tooled machine, it needs the right nutrients, in the right amount, to function properly. A lack of magnesium in the diet could lead to a number of problems that would impact health. Every day the body undergoes hundreds of metabolic activities, and it turns out that magnesium is important in over 300 of these. Every metabolic action requires energy to be completed, and magnesium is needed for the helping to utilize food for the production of energy. At the cellular level, magnesium is involved in maintaining both RNA and DNA. Because magnesium is required at such a basic level, it’s easy to see how a lack of magnesium might have a significant impact on
health.
The Cardiovascular System Depends Upon Magnesium
Magnesium is critical for muscles as it influences how the muscles contract and relax. And, because of this, it’s easy to understand why the heart muscle also needs adequate magnesium to function properly. Magnesium is also important for ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production, which is also needed for proper muscle function. Adequate magnesium may help to keep blood pressure within reasonable bounds and prevent irregular heartbeat.
The Skeletal System and Magnesium
The bones support the body and enable the ability to move around. By the time a person reaches their 20s, their bone plates have fused and cartilage has been replace entirely by bone tissue. Bones are not just dead structures, but rather living tissue that is renewed constantly like all tissue in the body. The problem arises when not enough new bone cells are being formed to replace those that have been released. The body will draw upon the bones when it needs more calcium, and unless this calcium is replaced, bones may become brittle and weak.
Magnesium and Serotonin
Serotonin is what is called a neurotransmitter, which means that it’s a chemical that sends messages along the pathways of the nervous system. It is sometimes called one of the body’s ‘feel good’ substances. While serotonin may have a number of important roles, it has also been linked to mood, and a lack of serotonin might lead to feelings of depression or irritation. Magnesium is important for keeping levels of serotonin in the body normal, when there isn’t enough magnesium available, outlook may take a downward turn. Magnesium facilitates the release of serotonin into the system and helps with its use by the cells of the brain. In addition to helping with mood, magnesium may also be important in controlling debilitating migraine headaches, as well as helping to promote a more normal sleep cycle.
