Bio-Kult - Probiotic Multi-Strain Supplement - 120 Capsules
Bio-Kult Probiotic Multi-Strain Supplement is scientifically developed, naturally powerful, 14 strain probiotic that supports your digestive and immune systems by maintaining the balance of good bacteria throughout your digestive tract. The beneficial bacteria in Bio-Kult are cryoprotected during the freeze drying process, which gives two main benefits:
- They are protected from the harsh acid environment of the stomach and are therefore able to colonise the full length of the gastrointestinal tract.
- The process allows Bio-Kult to be stored at room temperature without the need for refrigeration.
What is Live Bacteria
The trillions of microflora that can be found in the human gastrointestinal tract play an essential role in supporting and maintaining strong immune and digestive systems, so having the optimum balance of these beneficial bacteria is important. A number of factors can compromise this balance, including antibiotic therapy, infection, stress, travel or a period of unhealthy nutrition or lifestyle. An effective solution is to supplement the microflora by taking a multi-strain probiotic supplement to restore the balance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the Bio-Kult capsules in blisters?
Blistering the product offers greater flexibility and a far higher protection against extremes of temperature. Thus ensuring the stability, integrity and quality of the product is kept for every individual capsule until the end of shelf life.
I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Will probiotic supplements help?
Evidence has shown that probiotics (such as some of the strains contained within their products) can reduce the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, like bloating and gas.
Is Bio-Kult suitable for vegetarians?
Bio-Kult does not contain any meat-based materials. All capsules used are vegetable.
Can they be taken during pregnancy?
Their products contain naturally occurring beneficial microorganisms which have been previously shown to be safe to take during pregnancy. However, they would always recommend that advice should be sought from your GP/Health Care Practitioner whenever taking supplements.
Is there any situation when they should not be taken?
They should be prescribed at the discretion of the Health Care Practitioner for pregnant women, milk allergies, and in cases of immunosuppression.
I'm lactose intolerant. Can I use Bio-Kult?
Their products contain probiotic strains that have been shown to produce lactase, the enzyme needed to break down lactose, which is usually lacking in people intolerant to lactose. They contain traces of milk products at a level which would not affect lactose intolerance sufferers.
I have an allergy to milk. Can I take Bio-Kult?
Their products contain traces of milk that would not affect lactose intolerant sufferers, but if you have an allergy to milk, they would suggest you talk to your practitioner before taking.
Is the Bio-Kult range non-GMO?
All the products in the Bio-Kult range are non-GMO. They have full certification from all their suppliers for all ingredients.
Are there any side effects?
Their products contain a high concentration of live bacteria. If there is a pathogenic overload in your gut, and you start off with a high dose, in a small number of people a ‘die-off' side effect, such as bloating, may be experienced for a few days.
I suffer from IBD. Will probiotic supplements help?
Evidence suggests that increasing the number of live bacteria in the small intestine and colon may improve the health of patients suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Probiotics will not cure IBD, but have been shown to reduce the symptoms of IBD.
I'm going on holiday, but regularly suffer from Traveller's Diarrhoea. Will probiotic supplements help?
Studies have shown that giving live bacteria food supplements to travellers reduces the incidence of Traveller's Diarrhoea.
I regularly suffer from yeast infections, such as Candida. Will probiotic supplements help?
Evidence has shown that taking a live bacteria supplement can help prevent recurrent yeast infections.
Can I take probiotics at the same time as antibiotics?
Yes, evidence shows that taking probiotic supplements at the same time as an antibiotic can reduce the incidence of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. For the best results, take the supplement at the opposite end of the day to the antibiotic. Where this is not possible, take the probiotic supplement at least three hours after the antibiotic course.
I suffer from eczema. Will probiotic supplements help?
Yes. Some studies have shown that taking a daily probiotic food supplement can reduce eczema symptoms.
I have a leaky gut. Will probiotic supplements help?
Yes. Live bacteria supplements have been shown to improve intestinal permeability and reduce inflammation in sufferers of leaky gut syndrome.
Is Bio-Kult gluten, nut and egg free?
Bio-Kult products do not contain gluten, nuts or eggs.
I've heard that if you have too many strains of live bacteria in one supplement they destroy each other. Is this true?
There is some general concern debated about this in scientific literature but there is limited scientific data to back this up. In many studies, the comparisons are not strictly valid because in each study the dose of multi-strain live bacteria differed from that of the single strain. A recent review concluded that multi strains appear more effective than single strains overall. They believe a wider number of strains provide a wider range of benefits overall, and multi-strains are how they understand live bacterias to be provided in nature and within the gut flora.
They are able to guarantee the stability and count of all the bacteria within the Bio-Kult products until the end of the products shelf life.
Why doesn't Bio-Kult need to be kept in the fridge?
All their products are manufactured to an extremely high standard (cGMP accredited) in their purpose built facility in Somerset (Probiotics International Ltd.), enabling us to stay in complete control of their quality standards. Bio-Kult is manufactured using the latest techniques. The live bacteria themselves are encapsulated (with a protective coating) during a freeze drying process (lyophilisation). This process aids in the protection of the bacteria while on the shelf and from the harsh acidic environment of the stomach (shown in vitro to survive pH2 for 2 hours). The Bio-Kult blister packs offers further protection against moisture and extremes of temperature. No refrigeration is required due to this high protection. An external laboratory undertakes regular rigorous stability testing on Bio-Kult so unlike some other companies they are able to guarantee stability and count until the end of the two year shelf life when kept at room temperature up to 25 degrees Celsius.
Can I use Bio-Kult probiotics to culture yogurt?
Individual probiotic strains have different requirements to aid their growth in culture and the human gastrointestinal tract. Bio-Kult is not marketed as a ‘starter culture’ to make yogurt or soured milk and the strains in Bio-Kult have not been chosen for their ability to ferment milk (namely species Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus). Their strains are freeze dried to enhance their stability and shelf life and are believed to become active again once they meet the complex environment of the small intestine. However, some people have had some success culturing milk, but others have not. They complete rigorous stability testing on each batch of Bio-Kult enabling us to guarantee the stated quantity of at least 2 billion live bacteria per capsule for the entire 2 year shelf life. This stability testing is undertaken every 3 months by an external laboratory for which they receive certification. They also have a vast array of clinical trials that show beneficial outcomes of taking their multi-strain live bacteria products, implying they must be reaching the intestines alive.
