Homeopathic medicines have been used for more than 200 years. They are manufactured in strict accordance with the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS) and drug Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Today, homeopathic medicines are used by millions of patients and recommended by health care professionals around the world to relieve many acute health conditions such as allergies, coughs, colds, flu, stress, muscle pain and teething.
Which topical should I use: Arnicare Gel, Cream or Ointment?
Arnicare Gel has a cooling effect for fast pain relief. This non-sticky, non-greasy gel is quickly absorbed by the skin. Arnicare Cream’s soothing effect makes it ideal for massaging sore muscles. How often should I use an Arnicare topical?
The recommended frequency of application for an Arnicare topical is three times a day.

If after three days you show no improvement, Boiron recommend consulting your health care professional. If your symptoms improve, and you would like to use Arnicare for a longer period of time, please consult your health care professional.
Does Arnicare have any side effects? Does it have any contraindications or interact with other medications?
Arnicare has a low risk of side effects when used as directed and no contraindications. It can be safely taken with other medications and is sometimes recommended to complement other treatments. Arnicare will not interact with other medications, herbs, or supplements. When using this product, use only as directed, and do not bandage the area tightly. A small number of people are allergic to plants from the daisy family, and therefore may be allergic to Arnica montana. Do not use if you are allergic to Arnica montana or to any of this product’s inactive ingredients. If in doubt, try the topical on a small area first, and wait two hours to see how your skin reacts before applying it to a larger area. If itchiness or redness occurs, discontinue using the topical. These cases are very rare.
Can I use Arnicare if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your health care professional before taking any medicine, including Arnicare.
Can I use Arnicare past its expiration date?
No, Boiron do not recommend using Arnicare past its expiration date.
Can I use ice or heat in conjunction with an Arnicare topical?
When applicable, use the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, elevation) for 20 minutes before applying Arnicare, provided the skin is unbroken. As your treatment progresses, make sure Arnicare is no longer present on the skin before applying any more ice or a heating pad.

Manufacturing Homeopathic Medicines with Jean Boiron
In this 1937 video, Boiron’s co-founder, pharmacist Jean Boiron, shows us the steps taken to manufacture homeopathic medicines. From harvesting plants in the French Alps to creating mother tinctures in the Boiron laboratory, Jean and his team work diligently to ensure they are producing high-quality medicines for their patients and consumers.
Boiron Story
Boiron was founded in 1932 in Lyon, France, by twin brothers and pharmacists Jean and Henri Boiron.
In 1983, Boiron established a presence in the United States by acquiring John A. Borneman & Sons, Inc., in suburban Philadelphia. Borneman was a family business with four generations of homeopathic expertise focused on supplying medicines directly to physicians and the public throughout the U.S.
The fledgling company, commonly referred to as Boiron USA, employed a staff of seven, who performed all tasks from manufacturing to order processing and shipping. On average, 25 orders were shipped per day.
In 1985, the company’s first president, Daniel Cohen, began to focus on developing the retail sales channel to make Boiron homeopathic medicines more widely available. In 1987, Cohen returned to France, and Thierry Montfort arrived in the U.S. from Lyon to take the helm and continue the expansion in retail distribution. In response to a significant interest in homeopathy in California, Boiron established a branch in Simi Valley, outside of Los Angeles, in 1989.
In 1993, ten years after the acquisition of Borneman, Boiron invested in the construction of a new building and moved from the original Borneman site in Norwood, Pa. to neighboring Newtown Square. The building continues to serve as both the Boiron USA headquarters, as well as the manufacturing and distribution branch for the East Coast.
After heading Boiron Canada for seven years, namesake Thierry Boiron became Boiron USA’s third president in 1995 when Montfort returned to France as a newly appointment board member.
After much growth and the need to contract for larger warehousing on both the East and West Coasts, a newly-built West Coast branch was completed in June 2005. The 20,500 square-foot building offers warehouse capabilities to meet future demands and enhance service. The new building can also accommodate 50 people in a specially-designed conference room to facilitate educational efforts, as Boiron is constantly focused on outreach to the medical community.
Thierry Boiron returned to France to serve as managing direction of the Boiron Group, and Janick Boudazin, former director of medical development, is the U.S. division’s current president and CEO.
Today, Boiron USA has evolved into a leading U.S. homeopathic medicine supplier, fulfilling up to 1,000 orders per day during the busy flu season. The company partners with brokers, distributors and retail chains to make homeopathic medicines available to a wide variety of consumers and physicians. Boiron’s staff of 120+ consists of pharmacists and lab technicians, accounting and IT personnel, marketing & public relations staff, national sales force, customer service, and order fulfillment and shipping professionals—many of whom have impressively long careers with the company.
Boiron's Commitment
As world leader in homeopathic medicines, Boiron is committed to lead by example.
Boiron's Commitment to the Environment
The Boiron Group has a strong sense of obligation to respect the environment. The preparation of our medicines has a limited impact on the environment. The main effects derive from extracting raw materials (continuity of species gathered), water pollution (mainly organic and biodegradable) and waste. As a counterbalance, Boiron promotes re-supplying wild or organically-farmed plants when possible. This sequentially improves the quality of raw materials used.
Additionally, the Boiron Group works with botanist-harvesters well-versed in diagnosing the land and employing harvesting strategies to anticipate continuity of supplies for the future. They generally harvest plants from their natural surroundings, which are then used fresh and wild in accordance with the balance of nature and the specifications of the principal pharmacopoeia.
Boiron's Commitment to Their Employees
It is Boiron’s deep conviction that the key to the performance and the growth of the company depends on the creativity and motivation of all concerned. To promote personal and professional growth, the Boiron Group pioneered a new approach to employee relations 20 years ago—one that fosters dialogue, self-confidence, and flexibility in tasks, hours and individualized work situations. In turn, the employees have a vested interest in the company’s performance through the employee profit-sharing program. Additionally, employees enjoy stress-reducing on-site massages, company-sponsored events to bring together family and friends, and an employee 401K program.
