Since 1986, when Mount Hagen was founded, their coffee has been grown in Papua New Guinea. In fact, their name comes from Mount Hagen, a local region of volcanic highlands. Preparing Coffee Beans the Mount Hagen Way
Mount Hagen employs a unique method of preparing their coffee beans. Their harvesters only collect the red berries from the coffee plants (fun fact, coffee beans are actually berries!), because these beans are the ripest and most ready. After the collection of the berries, Mount Hagen utilizes a process known as the “wet method” on the berries. The berries are put inside tanks of water, where they slowly swell as the berries absorb the liquid. After this, they are crushed into a soft, shapeless mass, and then left to ferment.
