The T7 Difference
Sibu's Turkestanica Sea Berry (Sea Buckthorn) is an omega-7 powerhouse unmatched in its nutrient profile. Packed with over 190 bioactive compounds, it thrives in the extreme alpine environment of the Himalayan Highlands to provide you with unmatched health and beauty benefits.
Nature's Perfect Omega-7
After hundreds of years of quiet use, word of the astounding benefits of omega-7 fatty acid has finally reached the US. Touted by Dr. Oz for its incomparable nutritive and restorative properties, this rare but powerful "MUFA" (or monounsaturated fat) is popping up in media and in clinical study results across the country.
Omega-7 fatty acid (also called "palmitoleic acid" in most scientific and clinical publications) can be found in animal and plant sources, including macadamia nuts, cold- water fish and sea buckthorn berries. Sea buckthorn contains a much higher concentration of this valuable fatty acid, up to 40% as compared to 17% in macadamia nuts. While this omega has numerous skin and health benefits, it is also known for its ability to support a healthy weight, cardiovascular health and gastro-intestinal health.
Cardiovascular Health
Your entire cardiovascular system benefits from increased access to omega-7, particularly palmitoleic acid. The positive benefits to cardiovascular health fall into two categories: it may help (1) reduce the amount of bad cholesterol traveling through your arteries, and (2) help smooth their passage, which in turn helps artery walls stay strong and resistant to tearing.
- Improved lipid panels. Omega-7 (or palmitoleic acid) has been shown to induce broad improvements in overall lipid levels, including a reduction in LDL (bad cholesterol) levels and an increase in HDL (good cholesterol) levels. Balancing lipid panels has long been the primary goal of most cardiovascular health programs.
- Smooth artery walls. Omega-7 (or palmitoleic acid) has been shown to reduce elevations in C-reactive protein (CRP), which indicates how inflamed and sticky artery walls are. By soothing and smoothing artery walls in much the same way that they soothe and smooth skin, omega-7s keep cholesterol and fats in the blood moving along so they don't stick and cause problems.
Skin, Hair & Nails
Omega-7 provides key building blocks for skin, hair and nails. It helps combat wrinkles, dryness, loss of skin elasticity and other symptoms of malnourished or aging skin. It also helps skin function properly by supporting numerous skin functions, including:
- Boosting collagen production
- Protecting against oxidative damage
- Restoring youthful resilience and plumpness to aging skin cells
- Rejuvenating skin cell membranes
- Enhancing the skin's ability to retain moisture
- Repairing sun-damaged skin
- Protecting against sun damage, toxins and environmental stress
Weight Management
Taken internally, omega-7 fatty acid signals the body to stop storing fat. Clinical studies have shown that, not only do users melt away fat, but they also keep it off for longer periods. This amazing compound also helps the body maintain insulin sensitivity and fight off the imbalances that can result in metabolic syndrome. Insulin sensitivity plays a major role in helping the body convert glucose into energy, rather than storing it as fat. Research shows that omega-7 imitates a hormone in the body that helps regulate systemic metabolic activity.
Gastro-Intestinal Health
Omega-7 has a soothing and smoothing effect on all the body's sensitive internal linings. These linings (the mucous membranes that line the GI tract, stomach, upper respiratory tract and genital area) help nourish and hydrate internal organs and combat stressors, including excessive stomach acid or chronic inflammation. In addition to soothing inflamed and irritated membranes, the body needs this powerful fatty acid to plump up those sensitive linings, just like it uses them to plump thin, stretched skin cells.
Sibu Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sibu's omega-7 purified?
Other companies are now selling an animal sourced omega-7 and calling their extraction process "purified." This is a marketing term for highly processed with chemicals, solvents and high heat. Sibu sea buckthorn is minimally processed at low temperatures to protect the omega-7 and other fat soluble nutrients found in sea buckthorn. They consider their omega-7 pure, not "purified."
Does Sibu omega-7 have palmitic acid?
Yes, it does, but it's not bad for your health as the many who are selling a "purified omega-7" would want you to believe. Consider this, Sibu's omega-7 internal supplement contains less than 1% of the World Health Organization's recommended daily intake. You'll find palmitic acid in much greater quantities in dark chocolate, olive oil and anchovies. Human breast milk contains up to 40% palmitic acid!
Where does Sibu get sea buckthorn from?
All of Sibu's sea buckthorn berries are hand-harvested above 12,000 ft. from the majestic Himalayan Mountains. The harsh climate, extreme temperatures and tough soils of this area help create the most nutrient dense sea buckthorn berries in the world!
Is Sibu sea buckthorn organic?
Better than organic! Their sea buckthorn berries are all wild-grown, just as mother nature intended, far away from the polluted environment of mankind. Although their berries are not "certified" organic, the Himalayan valleys where they harvest have been producing berries for thousands of years without the use of pesticides, fertilizers or heavy machinery. This is as organic as it gets.
Is it necessary to continue taking fish oils when using Sibu supplements?
The primary omega in all Sibu supplements is omega-7. Their supplements also have a plant-sourced omega-3 called ALA or alpha-linolenic acid. Fish oil supplements provide omega-3 in the form of EPA and DHA. Both fish oil supplements and Sibu sea buckthorn supplements can be taken together if desired.
What is the timeframe to consume Sibu Liquid Supplement/Pure after opening?
Refrigerate after opening and consume the entire bottle within 30 days.
When is the right time to take Cellular Support Gel Caps and should they be taken with food?
The time of day is up to you. Pick a time when you know it will be convenient and you'll remember to take them. Taking your gel caps consistently and on a daily basis is key to achieving the results sea buckthorn can provide. Although you can take them with or without food, many Sibu customers prefer to take them with food. Research has shown that ingesting sea buckthorn with food can help the nutrients in your meal better assimilate in your body.
Is it appropriate to increase sea buckthorn intake on initial servings?
You will see results with the recommended dose mentioned on the packaging for that specific product. However, some people benefit from higher amounts depending on issue and age. Adults can safely triple the recommended dose for a "loading dose" or start with the recommended dose and increase dosage over time to find your optimal dose. No matter what dose you start with, it will take 4-6 weeks to start seeing noticeable results. This is the time it takes for the body to create new skin tissue and for it to rise to the surface.
Which skin type/skin issue do Sibu skincare products work best for?
Sibu's skincare line is especially effective for irritated, red, blemished and sensitive skin.
Which is better? Cleansing Face & Body Bar or Balancing Facial Cleanser?
The Cleansing Face & Body Bar is ideal if you're addressing irritated, sensitive or problematic skin. It can also be used on the entire body. The Cleansing Bar provides better therapeutic and repairing properties. The Balancing Facial Cleanser is ideal as your go-to cleanser to remove excess oils, toxins and impurities. It is also a great make-up remover. It is not recommended for people with sensitive skin as it has exfoliation beads which can irritate sensitive skin.
Which is better for skin? Sea buckthorn seed oil or fruit oil?
For external skin support use sea buckthorn seed oil. This works on the outer layers of skin to help repair, soothe and rejuvenate. This is a light oil that quickly absorbs and goes on clear. For internal use supplement with Sibu's sea buckthorn fruit oil. Sea buckthorn fruit oil has the scientific studies backing up the many skin benefits when it is taken internally, not when applied externally. Warning: if you apply sea buckthorn fruit oil topically, it will temporarily stain your skin an orange/red color.
What product is recommended to help acne?
- Cleanse problem skin with Sibu's Sea Buckthorn Face & Body Bar. It will gently wash away impurities while calming and nourishing skin.
- Follow cleansing with their Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil. It's anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and skin restorative properties support rapid skin recovery. Spot treat blemished areas twice daily.
- Supplementing with Sibu's Cellular Support Capsules will support the creation of new healthy skin tissue from the inside out.
How long until results can be seen?
- You should experience a lessening of irritation, redness and sensitivity within 1-3 applications.
- Improving skin tone, texture, pigmentation issues and lessening of fine lines and wrinkles can take 4-6 weeks. This is the time it takes for a new skin cell to form and rise to the surface of the skin.
How long will Sibu skincare products last if used daily?
Their skincare products are designed to last about 30 days if used twice daily. This does not apply to the larger sizes of Sibu's Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil (30 ml.), which will last 2-3 months.
Are Sibu products safe to use during pregnancy?
While many women take Sibu supplements during pregnancy, it is always recommend to speak with your health care practitioner if you have any concerns.
What's the difference between Sibu and other sea buckthorn or omega-7 brands?
Everything! There are many unique steps they take to insure they are providing the highest quality sea buckthorn products available.
- The Type of Sea Buckthorn: Sibu harvests a very special variety of sea buckthorn called Turkistanica. This specific type has been measured to have the highest nutrient levels and has the highest omega-7 content of any other variety.
- High Altitude, Wild-Grown, Hand-Harvested: All their berries are wild-grown in the Himalayas. No GMOs, no pesticides, no toxic chemicals. All Sibu berries are hand-harvested ensuring that Sibu gets the ripest berries.
- They are the only company that oversees the growth, harvesting and processing of sea buckthorn. Other companies purchase through open markets in China or from cultivated varieties at lower lying elevations.
- Sibu's omega-7 supplements have the highest concentrations of omega-7 than any other company on the market today.
- They are the only company that offers 100% crushed sea buckthorn berries in their Sibu Seven Omega-7 Pure. Sea buckthorn puree should be bright orange, have a thicker consistency with berry pulp and lots of wonderful omega oils that cling to your glass and pool in droplets on top. Other companies offer sea buckthorn juice that is thin, watery and oxidized to a rust color.
- Sibu is committed to offering the highest quality sea buckthorn available in an ethical and sustainable manner.
About Sibu
The journey to create a successful company can be as arduous as scaling a Tibetan mountainside, but well worth the view from the top. Bruce McMullin founded Sibu in 2003 after series of events led him to Calcutta, India where he crossed paths with an ayurvedic specialist in Chinese plants and herbs. In passing, this expert mentioned a powerful holy fruit, the Sea Buckthorn berry.
From there McMullin's quest took him to new heights, figuratively and literally, as he journeyed to some of the most remote locations of the Himalayas to find the superior source of Sea Buckthorn that is the foundation for all Sibu products. In addition to being a successful entrepreneur, Bruce has a thirteen-year history of philanthropic efforts worldwide serving as executive chairman of Choice Humanitarian.
Sibu Story
Sibu is proud to offer an exclusive line of health & beauty products that will improve the way you look and the way you feel. But they are also sensitive to the constant stress on the environment due to chemicals, overflowing landfills and irresponsible management of forests and other valued resources.
For these reasons, Sibu Beauty is also proud to announce a range of sustainability initiatives which respect the earth and the resources it provides. From their easily recycled plastic and their partnership with the Forest Stewardship Council, to their fair trade harvesting practices in Tibet and philanthropic outreach, Sibu Beauty want to make a difference for your health and for the planet.
Sustainability & Fair Trade
In Sibu's endeavor to keep you looking beautiful, they also strive to protect and respect the earth's fragile resources. So they've implemented processes to use precious natural resources responsibly and with minimal impact on the beloved planet. Sea buckthorn berries are a naturally sustainable resource growing wild at the source in Tibet.
Sibu's trade practices promote equal and sustainable relationships between their company and the villagers who harvest and process their berries. This includes fair wages, processes that are environmentally sustainable, and healthy, safe working conditions.
Against a backdrop of pristine Himalayan mountain peaks, Tibetan villagers cut a trail through the thick morning fog past ancient monasteries, journeying to the wild groves of sea buckthorn. Just as sea buckthorn berries are revered for their life-giving health properties, they are also venerated as a life sustaining financial resource. Often, entire families work in some capacity in the chain of harvesting and processing. The brief harvest season can provide enough money so that villagers can sustain themselves during the harsh winter months in the Himalayas when resources are scarce. There is an air of celebration to the harvest and processing season. Perhaps it's because workers are paid a fair wage the same day as the harvest and processing. To date, these dedicated, hard-working villagers have received consistent salary increases each year. From the harvest to the shelf, Sibu strives to run a responsible business with reverence for both people and the planet.
Giving Back
You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give.
In 2001, Sibu Beauty founder Bruce McMullin established the Tashi Foundation, a non- profit philanthropic organization designed to provide financial and resource support for the impoverished people of Tibet, where Sibu sea buckthorn berries are exclusively harvested.
Bruce has been involved with Choice Humanitarian since 1996. Bruce and his wife Jean have taken their children on expeditions to Kenya on two different occasions. They have also been on two or three additional expeditions with the "Yehu Bank" where micro credit loans are made to women in Kenya.
Bruce has been a member of the "executive committee" of Choice Humanitarian (1999-2000) and has been on numerous other committees in Choice. Additionally, Bruce has been the country director for Kenya from 2000 to 2003.
Bruce and Jean have been the host and hostess of the "Choice Gala" for a few years where money is raised for the humanitarian effort.
