Description
Vega- Sport Premium Plant-Based Protein Powder Chocolate - 29.5 oz. (812 g)
Real plant-based food ingredients & next level performance calls for next level protein. This protein powder contains 30g of plant-based protein from a multisource blend of pea, alfalfa, pumpkin seed, and sunflower seed to help build muscle. It includes 5g of BCAAs to help repair muscle and tart cherry to help support recovery. It also contains 2 billion CFU probiotics.
Complete Protein to Build and Repair Strong Muscles
Training breaks down muscle—you have to break down muscle to build it stronger. Consuming protein, especially BCAAs, after a workout helps your body to rebuild muscle, and reduces recovery time. With a reduced recovery time, you’ll be able to push harder and train more often, naturally building strength. Vega Sport Performance Protein has 30 grams of protein from pea, alfalfa, pumpkin seed and organic sunflower seed proteins.
Turmeric and Tart Cherry to Manage Inflammation
Turmeric contains curcumin, an antioxidant to support inflammation management post-workout. Black pepper increases absorption of curcumin. Tart cherries are also a rich source of antioxidants. Tart cherry juice supports recovery following strenuous endurance exercise by reducing inflammation, and aiding in the recovery of muscle function.
Probiotics Reduce Recovery Time
Preliminary research suggests that probiotics are important part of athletes’ recovery strategy—in reducing muscle soreness and rate of recovery. Pilot studies suggest that consuming a bacillus coagulans with a protein supplement post-workout increases athletic performance more than just consuming a protein supplement.

Vega Sport’s Prepare, Sustain, and Recover stages make it easy to fuel your better—before, during, and after your workout.
Sustainability
What Sustainability Means to Vega
At Vega, they want to change the world. And changing the world starts with them. Their passion for plant-based nutrition is as much about empowering health as it is about supporting the health of the planet. But sustainability isn’t just about what goes into their products—sustainability must be part of everything they do. They want to be a company that leaves a net zero carbon footprint. Come join them on their Journey to Zero.
Journey to Zero
It’s one thing to say you want to be a company that leaves a net-zero carbon footprint. It’s quite another to take real actions toward that goal. Journey to Zero is Vega’s name for their process of taking actions and being accountable to this goal.
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. And because they mean business when it comes to the planet, they treat their carbon footprint as a real indicator of their performance. They started with a complete corporate environmental sustainability audit and used the results to create Vega’s Sustainability Action Plan.
Every small change they make is a step on their Journey to Zero—and they take each of them so seriously that they’ve woven this process of making steps on this journey through the fabric of everything they do. Their ingredients, their packaging, their office, their suppliers—each of these represents an opportunity to innovate, improve, and bring them closer to their goal.
Ingredients
Vega's passion for clean, plant-based nutrition that’s good for your body and fuels your healthy, active life isn’t the only reason Vega products are exclusively plant-based—it’s also a reflection of their commitment to the planet.
What you eat can make a bigger impact on the planet than any other choice you make.
Reducing your personal carbon footprint involves a whole lot more than just how big a car you drive on your morning commute. In fact, what you eat can make a bigger impact on the planet than any other choice you make.
Whole, plant-based foods provide far greater nutrition relative to their real production cost from seed-to-plate when compared to processed, non-plant-based options. Or, in the words of their formulator, Brendan Brazier, they have a significantly lower nutrient-to-resource and nutrient-to-emissions ratio.
Your carbon footprint shrinks with every plant-based meal you choose.
Reducing your impact on the planet is simple—just start with one (plant-based meal a day, that is). Whether you’re dipping your toe into the Meatless Monday routine, or you’re a card-carrying raw vegan localvore, every plant-based meal you choose makes a dent.
Packaging
Through their sustainability audits, they’ve identified packaging as their single largest source of CO2 emissions—in 2012, packaging materials accounted for 71% of Vega’s total carbon footprint. Why? Because until then, like every other company in their industry, most of what they made at Vega came in a plastic bottle—bottles made from virgin HDPE plastic, derived from greenhouse-gas generating, non-renewable petroleum.
In 2013 they switched to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic bottles. Vega was the first in their category to switch from virgin HDPE plastic bottles to 100% PCR plastic bottles. With this one step, over just one year Vega:
- Saved 278 tons of CO2 - 63% less CO2 greenhouse gas than virgin plastic. This much CO2 could fill 353 parade balloons, making a balloon-only parade 4 miles long.
- Diverted 233 tons of plastic from the waste stream. Made into Vega bottles stacked end-to-end, that's a stack 58 times the height of Mount Everest.
- Used 14,865 million BTUs less energy - 86% less energy than virgin plastic. That's enough energy saved to run 140 average detached single family homes in America for a year.
Plus, Vega's 100% PCR HDPE plastic bottles are still fully recyclable. There are no silver bullets in life, or on their Journey to Zero, but every choice they make matters. Vega lives their commitment to constant improvement by pursuing perfection, one small change at a time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can someone with diabetes eat Vega products?
This is a simple question with a not-so-simple answer, since every person living with diabetes has unique needs. Whether you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes it’s always best to work with to your health care practitioner to find out what foods fit into your individualized diet and personal activity level.
Are Vega products organic?
This is a great question! When you check out the ingredient panel of their labels, you’ll see “organic” in front of the specific ingredients that are certified organic. Why aren’t all of their ingredients certified organic? They source organic ingredients where possible. They maintain a focus on small scale, domestic suppliers wherever possible to help out the little guys. They believe in finding suppliers that have similar core values to Vega with whom they can build long-lasting partnerships. These suppliers may provide them with organically grown raw materials free from herbicides and pesticides, but might not have their organic certification. Organic certification is an extensive process that can be cost prohibitive for some of these smaller scale farms. Sustainability and sustainably grown ingredients is something that is very important to Vega.
Can someone who is pregnant take Vega products?
They always recommend you check with your healthcare practitioner on whether or not you personally should use Vega products while pregnant or breastfeeding. They’ll have a better scope of your overall health and wellness goals, and whether you are introducing a new food or supplement into your routine or continuing your current intake. If you are aware of any sensitivities or allergies to any ingredients in Vega products, they definitely recommend avoiding that product—whether you are pregnant or not.
Can Vega products be mixed with dairy?
Being a plant-based company, Vega recommends non-dairy beverages such as almond, hemp, coconut, or rice milk with your favorite Vega product, but that doesn’t mean you can’t mix it with whatever you have in the fridge!
Why aren't the tubs full?
You may wonder why Vega isn't filling their tubs right to the top of the brim or why they don’t make a smaller tub to fit the amount of the powder found inside. The truth is, when the tubs are filled, they’re actually full. It’s not until they’ve been sealed and shipped out to you that the powder begins to settle and become more compressed. Just like pillows, (or bag of chips) Vega protein powders settle, compress, and appear to not fill the tubs upon opening. But you can be guaranteed that every scoop still contains the nutrition you’re looking for.

How They Got Here
The key ingredients of vision, determination and serendipity combined when Brendan Brazier and Charles Chang founded Vega. As a professional triathlete, Brendan Brazier recognized that nutrition made good athletes, great. As he self-experimented with different diet types, he realized that clean, plant-based nutrition was the competitive advantage he needed. After meeting Sequel Naturals founder Charles Chang, Brendan pitched the concept of an all-in-one nutritional shake that did not compromise quality, nourishing ingredients for convenience. Just like that, Vega’s first product—Whole Food Health Optimizer—was born. And that was just the beginning.
Since 2001, Vega has been groundbreakers in the plant-based natural health and performance products industry. From Whole Food Health Optimizer, they’ve expanded to create a range of clean, plant-based nutrition products to help you be better—on your own terms.
